Group Reflection
A group reflection on the process of deriving the needs analysis

Based on our knowledge on Purposeful Play, we initially suspected that the school might face the following needs highlighted in the mind map (above) when implementing purposeful play.
Post-interview and Survey
After the interview and survey conducted, we realised that the needs of the centre mainly comprises of the differing perspectives between the principal and teaching staff on play and the different skill sets required for implementing play.

Our Learning Points
-
We realized that what we learned in the classroom does not always reflect the current problems faced by the industry. This is seen where our initial brainstorm of the needs and challenges of implementing purposeful play in the classroom is drastically different from the needs analysis of the interview and survey conducted. Therefore, we feel that even though it is crucial to equip ourselves with the knowledge and concepts of Early Education, it is far more important to have some in-field experiences to not only apply the knowledge that we have learned into the classroom context but be exposed to the challenges in real-time.
-
As we lack the experience of implementing purposeful play, we assumed that there would be many issues conducting purposeful play in the classroom. However, there were much lesser problems than we expected and we saw the importance of learning and seeing things with our own eyes in the industry. With that, we understand that even though one way to gain knowledge on the industry is to critique the learning environment and teacher in a center (hence learning from their mistakes), it is also important to recognize that areas that the industry excels in and learn from them.
-
We also learnt that despite being in the same centre, and facing the same issues, what the principal thinks as the needs of the centre may not be the same as what the teachers think the needs are. Hence, it is important to gather multiple perspectives (even if it is within the same centre) for a more objective stand and analysis
